| A little about the guy behind Geek by Profession... |
The story behind “Geek by Profession” and the
guy who runs it.
It started many, many years ago…Ok, so maybe
it was just the early 80’s, but when you are talking computers, that was
many years ago. It was
lunchtime and I was bored, I wandered into the computer lab on
campus. That was all it took,
I was hooked, not yet a geek but thought this computer stuff could be
fun. After a few years I had
scrounged up the money to buy a computer of my own, but I had no one to
maintain it or upgrade it.
Necessity being the mother that it is, I had to learn all I could,
on my own. (Hadn’t reached geek status yet though) Fast forward to the mid 90’s… After going to
school for accounting, and then finding out I hated it, I realized that I
had acquired a great deal of knowledge about computers. A friend helped me get a job in a
computer lab, maintaining the computers and assisting the students. I think that was officially when I
became a geek. From there I was a
config tech for MicroAge, a tech support rep for Intuit, an Office
Automation Specialist for the University of Arizona, a field technician
for PCSOS, an IS Technician for Fry's Electronics, an Instructor for
Career Training Center, a tech support rep for University of Phoenix and a
field technician for Qualxserv.
All the time I was doing my own thing on the side.
In July of 2005, I
came to the realization that I didn’t just want to build computers for
family and friends…that I was tired of “doing the computer thing on the
side”. I decided that I
should make a definite go of the self employment thing and push for my own
company. The name Geek by
Profession was given to me by Jeri Grupe and after a trip to the Arizona
Secretary of State, it was mine to use officially. It is now my goal to find other like-minded and skilled technicians to make your computerized life just a little bit easier to handle. | |
